Foods for healthy teeth

Are your teeth hurting from too much Halloween candy? Admit it, you may have had one too many sugary treats this weekend. It’s okay, you’re only human, just make sure to make it up to your mouth by eating a dental friendly diet this week.

Here are some foods your teeth will thank you for!

Milk- Obviously the calcium in milk is good for building strong teeth and bones, but the beverage is also low in acidity and will help neutralize the acids from food that break down your enamel and cause cavities.

Green Tea – Besides being full of antioxidants, this delicious beverage also contains antibacterial chemicals.

Salmon– Salmon has plenty of vitamin D, an essential vitamin for tooth and gum health.

Celery – Biting into a crisp piece of celery is great for cleaning plaque from your teeth! Celery, along with many other fresh fruits and vegetables, contains a lot of fiber. According to the American Dental Association eating high fiber foods help prevent tooth loss and lower your risk of gum disease.

Fresh Cranberries– Fresh cranberries contain compounds that prevent bacteria from sticking to your teeth.

Sugarless Gum– The act of chewing leads to an increase in saliva in the mouth. Saliva helps prevent the buildup of plaque and in general keeps your mouth cleaner.

Water– There’s a reason your dentist visits always end with a fluoride rinse, it’s one of the most effective substances for repairing and strengthening your teeth. Fortunately you also get a dose of Fluoride everyday through your tap water, as most water in the United States contains added fluoride! So drink up for healthy teeth.

Oranges– Oranges help strengthen connective tissue and blood vessels in your mouth. They also contain plenty of vitamin C, which can help prevent Gingivitis. Vitamin C also minimizes inflammation and boosts your immunes system, which is good for preventing tooth infections.
