Screen Shot 2013-04-30 at 2.44.14 PMTomorrow marks the first day of May! There are plenty of reasons to love the month of May, but one of the main reasons we at Sparkle Market love it is because May is National Barbecue Month. The weather is warmer and the days are longer—cooking out on the grill is the perfect way to celebrate the start of summer! In order for your barbecues to be a tasty success, check out these five ways to celebrate National Barbecue Month!

1. Organize a Potluck
A potluck combines our three favorite F’s: friends, food and fun. Invite your friends and family over, have them bring a food item, like side dishes, salads and desserts, and all that’s left for you to do is grill! Grilling gives you a chance to mingle with your guests while you’re cooking so you won’t have to miss out on the party!

2. Implement More Vegetables
When you think barbeque, you think meat. It doesn’t always have to be that way! Want a lighter dinner? Skip the meat altogether. Grill a handful for dinner or stack a variety on skewers for vegetable kabobs! Great tasting grilled vegetables include peppers, zucchini, onions and corn. Not only do they taste great, they’re great for you, too!

3. Use Less Dishes
Doesn’t it seem like when you cook inside for dinner there are a ton of more dishes to clean? Relax more. Clean less. Grill outside on a Sunday evening and enjoy your extra free time the night before another busy work week.

4. Use Your Grill as a Mini Campfire
Don’t want to build a bonfire for your potluck? Use your grill as a mini campfire to make your favorite summertime treat—smores! Marshmallows don’t need extremely high heat or an actual fire to melt. Give your kids long sticks to avoid touching the actual grill and let them have fun!

5. Share Recipes
You have the whole summer to cook out on the grill—so try new grilling recipes! Ask neighbors and friends for recipes, try different marinates and seasonings and mess around with your existing recipes to make them even tastier. You’ll never know what kinds of masterpieces you’ll come across!

Don’t have all of your barbecue supplies? Your local Sparkle Market has all of your grilling needs! Happy National Barbecue Month and Happy Grilling!
