Now that spring has arrived and warmer weather is finally here, it’s time to stock up on healthy spring foods! These foods will help with the cleansing process, and prepare the body for the summer sun headed our way.

It’s best to buy foods that are locally grown, and if possible, organic. Not only will these foods hit the spot for spring, they are also helpful for maintaining the gallbladder and liver.

Some great fruit choices include: limes, lemons, grapefruits, Valencia oranges and kiwi. Eat these fruits by themselves, or dice them up for a great fruit salad! Not only are fruits important, but vegetables are also high on the list. When shopping, look for these: beets, sprouts, daikon, sauerkraut, spring greens, parsley, broccoli, asparagus, dandelion and cauliflower. Many of these choices can be great raw as an afternoon snack, or cooked as a side dish for a meal. Other foods that are great for spring are barley, millet, rye, wheat and quinoa. These are all excellent choices for a healthy spring!

Although spring is the time for backyard barbecues, ice cream, and fairs it’s important to stay away from some of the favorites. Here are some foods to avoid this spring: fried foods, chocolate, coffee, excessive amounts of dairy, red meat, sugar, honey, and alcohol. If these are some of your favorites, maybe try substituting them with healthy choices from above.
